Levels of Leakage
-
Stress
Bladder leakage during physical movement or activity- such as coughing, sneezing, running or heavy lifting. It's often caused by weakened pelvic floor muscles or sphincter muscles, which are responsible for supporting the bladder and urethra.
-
Urge
The occasional sudden need to urinate with corresponding loss of large volumes of urine before reaching a bathroom. It's often associated with overactive bladder, where the bladder muscles contract excessively, causing an urgent need to urinate.
-
Overflow
A frequent or constant dribble of urine due to inefficient emptying of the bladder. This happens because the bladder becomes over distended due to various factors, including weak bladder muscles, nerve damage, or a blockage in the urinary tract.
-
Functional
A condition where a person loses bladder control due to physical or cognitive limitations that prevent them from reaching the bathroom in time, despite a normally functioning urinary system.
-
Reflex
When the bladder fills with urine and an involuntary reflex causes the bladder to contract and empty, without any warning or urge to urinate. This occurs due to neurological problems that interfere with the signals between the brain and bladder.
